AJAC’s Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) – Operator & Programmer Training

FIRST SECTION: CMM Operator (8 hours)

Objective

The CMM Operator section will introduce your employees to the theory, application and best practices of CMM inspection techniques.

Through hands-on practice and instructor guidance, your employees will demonstrate on a Brown & Sharpe Hexagon Metrology CMM how to:

  • Startup and configure PC-DMIS software
  • Setup, calibrate and operate a PCMM to perform an inspection
  • Measure and set alignments within PC-DMIS software
  • Calculate the Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) to accommodate for temperature fluctuations during inspection.
  • Apply measuring concepts when using GD&T and CAD
  • Use proper probing techniques to record and report measurements in PC-DMIS software
  • Maintain consistent, and accurate, measurements using best practices with the PCMM

Audience

This course is for employers and employees working in the manufacturing industry in Washington State.

Skills Assessment

Your employees will demonstrate their understanding of how to setup, calibrate, operate and maintain the CMM by accurately inspecting the provided AJAC Inspection Plate and reporting the results for verification.

SECOND SECTION: CMM Programmer (8 hours)

Your Employees will complete AJAC’s Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Programmer section utilizing a Browne & Sharpe Hexagon Metrology manual CMM that will provide students an advanced hands-on experience.

Objective

In AJAC’s CMM Programmer section, your employees will apply the inspection skills they learned in the Operator section to set up, calibrate, operate and maintain a CMM. Using proper probing techniques and best practices, your employees will write an inspection program utilizing PC-DMIS software, and analyze programming data outcomes for consistent and accurate measurements.

Through hands-on practice and instructor guidance, your employees will use their inspection and operation skills to:

  • Develop and follow an inspection plan
  • Program inspection routines for the CMM
  • Write programs using CAD models
  • Modify inspection routines within PC-DMIS
  • Edit part programs to be user-friendly for the CMM operators
  • Insert commands to convert a manual CMM program for use on an automated CMM

Skills Assessment

Your employees will demonstrate their understanding of inspection programming and troubleshooting by accurately writing a CMM program to inspect the provided AJAC Inspection Plate and report the results for verification.

Students who successfully complete this course will receive AJAC’s certificate of completion.
