First Section: Basic Engineering Drawings (20 hours)

Objective

Throughout AJAC’s Basic Engineering Drawings course, with hands-on practice and instructor guidance, your employees will apply engineering drawing principles, including:

  • Orthographic and Isometric Sketching
  • Third and First Angle Projection
  • Accumulated Tolerances
  • Dimensioning Methods–(Chain, Broken chain, Datum dimensioning)
  • Angular Dimensions
  • Reference Dimensions
  • Chamfers, Keyseats and Keyways
  • Counterbores and Countersinks
  • Castings and Finish Symbols
  • Surface Roughness and Surface Textures

Instruction will reflect the current ASME Y14.5 Standards with emphasis on practical applications of this standard as applied to reading, interpreting, updating, and troubleshooting engineering production drawings.

This course is for employers and employees working in the manufacturing industry in Washington State.

Skills Assessment

Your employees will demonstrate their understanding of analyzing basic engineering drawings by using industry standard manufacturing prints.

Formal assessments, including quizzes, a mid-term exam and final exam, may be administered upon employer request for an additional fee. This will increase the total number of course hours.

Students who successfully complete this course will receive AJAC’s certificate of completion.

Second Section: Advanced Engineering Drawings (20 hours)

Objective

Throughout AJAC’s Advanced Engineering Drawings course, with hands-on practice and instructor guidance, your employees will apply the knowledge gained in the basic course to:

  • Reading and interpreting complex blueprints.
  • Casting Bosses and Pads
  • Knurling
  • Heat-Treat Notes
  • Sectional Views
  • Recognize Symbology
  • Threaded Hole Specifications
  • Typical Dimensions
  • Right Triangles
  • Interpreting basic GD&T symbols on blueprints
  • Understanding the concept of statistical process control (SPC) and relationships between SPC and tolerances

Instruction will reflect the current ASME Y14.5 Standards with emphasis on practical applications of this standard as applied to reading, interpreting, updating, and troubleshooting engineering production drawings.
